About Me
My name is Orel Shimoonov, and I am a proud first generation American. Like many other immigrants my parents came to this country in search of the American dream. In search of that dream, my father went from job to job working hard and long hours, until he became an electrician who was recognized around our community as someone with magical hands and a magical smile. My parents instilled in me to always work harder than anyone else around me, therefore at the young age of 14 upon my father’s passing after a long battle with brain cancer I began working to help my family survive. Between working hard to keep up with my grades and working to support my family I began to understand my father’s work ethic. This work ethic allowed me and my family to persevere from the difficulties we were experiencing.
I recently graduated from NYC College of Technology with a bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering. Due to my father instilling in me a love for using my hands to create and help others, my dream became one of improving the lives of others. I continuously attempt to do so through the various projects and inventions I’ve had the pleasure of working on and creating independently and with peers throughout my high school, college and professional career.
